Tahar Bekri Tunisia

TAHAR BEKRI was born in near Gabès, Tunisia, in 1951. He has lived in Paris since 1976. Writing in both French and Arabic, he has published around twenty books of poetry, essays and artists’ books. Considered to be one of the leading voices of contemporary North African literature, Tahar Bekri is Maître de Conférences at Université de Paris XNanterre. His work, marked by exile, wandering and travels, evokes the continual reinvention of cultures. His essays include De la littérature tunisienne et maghrébine (1999) and his poetry collections of note Le Chant du roi errant, Les songes impatients and, most recently, Je te nomme Tunisie (2011).
