Elaine Feinstein is a prize-winning poet, novelist and biographer. She was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 1980. In 1990, she received a Cholmondeley Award for Poetry, and was given an Honorary D.Litt from the University of Leicester. Her versions of the poems of Marina Tsvetaeva were first published in 1971, and remain in print from OUP/Carcanet in the UK and Penguin in USA. Her Collected Poems and Translations (2002) was a Poetry Book Society Special Commendation. Her biography of Anna Akhmatova, which she began writing in 1999, comes out in June 2005 from Weidenfeld and Nicholson.
