Andrej Peric Slovenia

Andrej Peric (formerly Pleterski) is an award-winning literary translator – from English, French, Slovak and Spanish, and of Slovene poetry into English and Slovak – anthologist, mentor and editor. He holds an MA in Translation Studies (Slovene-English-French combination) from the Faculty of Arts, Ljubljana. He has also received translation training in France, Slovakia and Spain at different academic institutions.

He has published thirty book-format translations in Slovenia, Slovakia and the USA, of British, Australian, French, Slovak, Maltese, Icelandic and Slovene authors (with another six in co-translation) and compiled ten anthologies of poetry, short stories, theatre plays, and folk tales. In 2021, he published four complete collections by the renowned Slovak poet Mila Haugová in one book. He has curated and translated an anthology of Slovak short stories, also contributing to anthologies of contemporary Maltese, Icelandic and Estonian literature. He has translated selections of twenty-eight major Slovene poets into English and Slovak for various international occasions. Additionally, he regularly publishes his translations and literary interviews in major Slovenian magazines and on the national radio.

He is a two-time recipient, in 2012 and 2015, of the Lirikon Gold accolade for best magazine translations of Slovene poetry into English. He has obtained the Radojka Vrancic Award (2014) for his translation of the poetic novel L’Amour seul by the French writer Laurence Plazenet. In 2018, his translated book of selected poems, The Gift of Delay by the prominent Slovene poet Maja Vidmar, was nominated for the AATSEEL Award. Since 2011, he has run the Slovak literary translation workshop held by the Republic of Slovenia Public Fund for Cultural Activities.
