MATILDA OLKINAITE was
born in 1922 into a Lithuanian
Jewish family and died in 1941
at the hands of Nazi
collaborators, along with her
parents and siblings.

She began writing at an
early age, and her poetry was
published in Lithuania in
magazines for children and
young adults in the 1930s.
Later, in 1940 and early
1941, her poems appeared
in newspapers in the
Lithuanian capital Vilnius.
