Shashi Joshi has a PhD in History from Jawaharlal Nehru University. She began her academic career lecturing at Miranda House, University of Delhi; was Senior Fellow at the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, New Delhi and, during 1983-1997, was co-director at an Indian Council of Social Science research project. She is currently Senior Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla. She has several publications to her credit including a three-volume work co-authored with Bhagwan Josh entitled Struggle for Hegemony in India: 1920-47. She has also published a play based on the Mountbatten Papers, The Last Durbar: The Division of British India (OUP, 2007).
