Born in Jyväskylä in 1971, Vesa Haapala moved around Finland until settling in the capitol area. His first book Vantaa (Otava 2007), which received the Kalevi Jäntti prize, was named after the town he lives in. The prose poetry of Termini (Otava 2009) and the avantgardism of Kuka ampui Ötzin? (Otava 2012) show an increasing collaboration with the graphic designer Markus Pyörälä. Haapala is a lecturer in Finnish literature at the University of Helsinki, where he received a doctorate in the same subject.
