From SYLVIA PETTER, an Australian in Austria
I have just heard that Arc Publications will not receive funding.
I am dismayed.
When UNESCO, in 1999, proclaimed 21 March as World Poetry Day, it did so in an effort to help meet some of the "unfulfilled aesthetic needs" of our present world. "Poetry can meet this need if its social role of interpersonal communication is recognized and it continues to be the means of arousing and expressing awareness."
Arc Publications not only facilitates meeting this need in original English cutting-edge poetry, but in translation into English from a number of European and minority poets.
Independent publishers are vital for the sustaining cultural values in the UK, in Europe, in the world.
Arc Publications is not only performing a labour of love, it is doing vital work for poetry and the dissemination thereof.
Arc Publications must be supported in its efforts to arouse and express awareness, not only in the UK, but in the world.
By funding Arc publications, your entity will contribute to supporting the efforts of the United Nations.
It would be so sad, such a pity, if you renege on this.
