From JOANNA BOULTER, poet & editor, Arrowhead Press
I wish to make plain, in the strongest possible terms, my distress at the draconian loss of Arc's Arts Council Funding.
I have been an admirer of this press since 1986, and I believe that the excellence of the work it publishes, and the finished quality of the actual books, speak for themselves. The wide range of Arc's list is admirable; where else would one find such a span of international poetry in translation, especially Eastern European?
This is a list I was privileged and delighted to join myself. In 2006 Arc published my book, Twenty Four Preludes And Fugues On Dmitri Shostakovich, which was shortlisted for the Forward Prize For First Collection the following year.
When my husband and I set up Arrowhead Press some ten years ago, I had Arc clearly in my eye as a standard to aim for, even without funding. I hope most strongly that they will be able to keep going.
