As a fellow poetry publisher and, moreover, one who specialises in translated poetry, I have been shocked to learn that Arc has lost its funding from 2012. What Arc has achieved is out of all proportion to its size. Along with a handful of other presses and magazines, it has transformed insular attitudes towards poetry and made available the work of significant poets unknown in this country. It would be a tragedy if its ability to continue the much admired translation programme were to be threatened and indeed most likely destroyed by this decision.
