From THOMAS A. CLARK, poet
The development of the art of poetry in this country has been seriously hampered, for a generation at least, by the dominance of one or two publishing houses.
In this situation, the intelligence and persistence of Arc Publications has been admirable and refreshing. While allowing other voices to be heard, their translation programme feeds strains into English poetry it would lose to its great impoverishment.
It should be the purpose of arts funding to encourage exactly such an exacting enterprise as Arc.
