From Professor HARRY G. AVELING (Australia), Distinguished Visiting Professor, Southeast Asian Studies Program, Center for International Studies, University of Ohio
I am writing to express my unreserved admiration for the work of Arc Publications in the areas of poetry and literary translation. These are small but overwhelmingly significant areas of cultural activity. A nation which has no place for matters of the spirit involving both self-discovery and the deliberate reaching out to the literary heritage of other societies is itself immeasurably diminished.
I would earnestly petition that Arc Publications be given adequate resources to continue their fine publication series. The series are of the highest quality. The translation series, with which I am particularly acquainted, is wide-ranging in its geographical sweep and innovative in what it presents to the reading public. These works are unlikely to reach a global audience without their initial appearance in Great Britain in the English language. In these days of international unrest and mistrust, Arc Publications represents a beacon of hope for a more civilized world.
